Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has declared that the fundamental purpose of education is to cultivate responsible citizens with refined character, not merely to confer academic degrees.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new school campus here on Wednesday, he pledged his full support for advancing education and development across the South Punjab region.
Addressing the grand opening of the Roots Millennium School Multan Campus as the chief guest, Mr. Gilani emphasized that education is the most vital instrument in shaping human societies and a fundamental necessity for every person, irrespective of wealth, gender, or social background.
“Education refines a person’s character,” the Senate Chairman remarked, asserting that its goal extends beyond obtaining qualifications from schools, colleges, or universities to preparing individuals who respect social values and traditions.
Expressing his deep connection to Multan, the “city of saints,” Mr. Gilani highlighted his consistent efforts toward the city”s progress. He pointed to various development and educational projects completed across Multan and the wider South Punjab area, noting their ongoing benefit to the local population.
Recalling his tenure as prime minister, he cited the award of 100 scholarships to Bahauddin Zakariya University, each worth Rs100 million, and mentioned that many recipients are now serving the nation in important fields. He also noted that the Gilani Law College currently offers PhD and LLM programmes and that he has requested the law minister to approve 50 additional seats to further promote legal studies.
Mr. Gilani praised the new school for offering state-of-the-art education with modern facilities, calling it a positive initiative for future generations.
The event was attended by MNA Syed Ali Qasim Gilani, CEO Roots Millennium Schools Multan Faisal Mushtaq, Director Sabina Zakir, former ambassador Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi, Saira Khakwani, as well as numerous teachers, students, and parents.
