TAUNSA SHARIF: A gang of terrorists injured seven policemen by attacking their checkpoint in Taunsa Sharif town of Punjab late Tuesday night, police said today.
The attackers targeted the Jhangi checkpost with grenades, rocket launchers, and other armss. Punjab police spokesperson said around 20 terrorists launched the attack on the checkpost and tried to take the policemen captive. However, the police valiantly repelled the assault, forcing the terrorists to retreat as they ran out of ammunition. The attackers took advantage of the dark night, striking from different directions.
The injured policemen, including ASI Imran, constables Muhammad Amir, Asif Zain, Rehmatullah, and Elite constables Tariq and Shahid Manzoor, were rushed to Taunsa Sharif THQ hospital for medical assistance. Shahid Manzoor's critical condition necessitated his transfer to Multan's Nishtar Hospital.
Following the attack, the area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to apprehend the terrorists. Punjab police chief Dr. Usman Anwar commended the bravery of the police team, vowing that the Punjab police would not allow terrorists to succeed in their nefarious designs.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the terrorist assault and ordered the provision of the best possible treatment to the wounded security personnel.
