Shopian fake encounter: Indian Army admits 3 slain men were Rajouri residents

Srinagar, September 18, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army has admitted that three youth killed by its troops during a cordon and search operation in Shopian were civilians who hailed from Rajouri district of Jammu. The Indian Army in a statement issued, today, said, a high-level Court of Inquiry set up by it into the July 18 operation at Amshipora in Shopian has concluded, bringing out certain prima facie evidence indicating that during the operation, powers vested under the black law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), were exceeded.

Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, said in the statement that inquiry had found that the “Do’s and Don’ts of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) as approved by the Supreme Court have been contravened”. “The evidence collected by the inquiry has prima-facie indicated that the three unidentified (militants) killed in Op Amshipora were Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Ibrar, who hailed from Rajouri,” he said.

It is to mention here that on July 18, Indian Army had killed three youth during the operation and passed them on as “unidentified militants”. However, the victims were later identified by their families through the pictures released by the army as Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohd Ibrar from Rajouri, who had gone to the Kashmir Valley in search of work.
