Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho emphasized the importance of strict hygiene measures and highlighted the importance of adhering to infection control protocols, stating that significant reduction in infection can be achieved by adopting hand hygiene and sanitization.
Addressing the awareness workshop on cleanliness and infection management, organized today by the Hyderabad Health Department, Dr. Pechuho highlighted the need for honesty and diligence among health officials, doctors, and medical staff. The event, held at the new Deputy Commissioner Complex in Hyderabad, was attended by prominent figures such as DG Health Sindh Dr. Waqar Mahmood and Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon.
Experts in the session identified challenges related to the transmission of infections, hospital cleanliness, waste management, and safe patient care. They particularly emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations against diseases such as measles in young children, reinforcing the need for a complete vaccination schedule.
Dr. Pechuho stressed the importance of adopting hand hygiene and sanitation protocols and warned that only sterile syringes should be used, as such syringes are the cause of diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.
In an effort to improve hospital cleanliness, Dr. Pechuho announced the establishment of special monitoring committees. These committees will conduct twice-daily inspections of cleanliness, waste management, and staff hygiene in healthcare facilities. She reiterated that strict action will be taken against any negligence.
Furthermore, Dr. Pechuho advocated for more effective awareness campaigns at the district level regarding cleanliness and health precautions. She encouraged the use of social media and other channels to raise public awareness on infection prevention measures.
