The Government of Sindh has announced a major plan to hold 18 major sports competitions across the province from January to June, which also includes the significant decision to extend the Thar Jeep Rally track from 92 to 150 kilometers.
This announcement was made on Wednesday after a high-level meeting chaired by the Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar. The Thar Jeep Rally will be held in Nagarparkar in the last week of March.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Syed Zulfiqar Shah and Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Sports Secretary Munawar Mahesar, Member of Sindh Assembly Qasim Siraj Soomro, and Director Sports Asad Ishaq, among others.
During the proceedings, it was also revealed that preparations for the 19th Sindh Games have begun. Sports Minister Mahar stated that budget approval for the provincial games will be sought from the Chief Minister.
The six-month packed calendar includes diverse activities, including the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Mega Malakhra in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto in the last week of January and a bullock cart race in Thatta on January 24.
The February schedule includes the Thar Festival in Mithi from the 6th to the 7th and the Sindh Special Games in Karachi from the 13th to the 15th. Alongside this, the Sardar Ghulam Muhammad Khan Mahar Cricket Tournament in Sukkur will continue from January to February 15, in which forty PCB-approved club teams are participating.
Looking ahead, the Ghotki Festival is planned to be held in April, while Beach Games are proposed in Karachi in the last week of April. It has also been decided to hold the Sindh Pink Football Tournament in Lyari from May 3 to 5.
