Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah expressed serious concerns over the construction of canals during a press conference here on Tuesday.
They stated that no new water resources are available, and the decision to construct controversial canals should be made in accordance with the constitution in a meeting of the Council of Common Interests.
Sharjeel Memon mentioned that discussions on this matter have been held three times with Rana Sanaullah, and the stance of the Pakistan Peoples Party is that no controversial canal should be constructed. He further added that the Prime Minister had assured them of resolving this issue.
Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that in the past 25 years, there have only been four years when water reached the delta. Due to the shortage of water in the river, the government needs to make a correct decision.
Sharjeel Memon stated that talks are ongoing with serious members of the PML-N, but some ministers are making statements that could disrupt the environment. He demanded that the Prime Minister take action against those who intend to disrupt the environment.
He mentioned that the Punjab government might have a personal conflict with the federation, and the Prime Minister should take this matter seriously. Sharjeel Memon emphasized avoiding statements that could put the federation in a difficult position.
