Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has announced a comprehensive plan to provide free education in English medium schools, pledging to personally cover all educational expenses from class one to matriculation for deserving children registered at the Governor House.
He made this announcement while addressing the participants of the 16th Iftar dinner at the Sindh Governor House under the “Umeed-e-Ramazan” initiative. The initiative will also include scholarships for higher education abroad and financial assistance for the medical treatment of needy individuals.
Governor Tessori stated that fifty thousand students are currently enrolled in free modern IT courses at the Governor House, which he described as an effort to empower the country’s youth. He said that these modern skills would enable young people to become self-reliant and support their families, even if government jobs are not available.
Presenting himself as a “brave governor,” Mr. Tessori emphasized that he would continue to advocate for the rights of the public fearlessly on every available forum. Citing the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), he declared that the voice of truth lives forever and to stand for truth is to walk the path of Hussainiyat.
He reiterated that the Governor House now belongs more to the public than to him, with its doors open 24/7 to all citizens. He explained that this is intended to show that the building is a public institution, not just for government officials.
Responding to claims that he is a divisive figure, the Governor replied that he is distributing “love, laptops, and residential plots” to create opportunities for youth and deserving individuals. He stressed that guests at the Governor House are not judged based on nationality or religion, and noted that since the beginning of Ramadan, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, and people from various schools of thought have been attending the daily Iftar.
The event also included a lucky draw where prizes were distributed. A residential plot in Mirpurkhas district was won by Ali Nawaz in a draw conducted by Sindh Assembly member Faisal Rafiq, while an Umrah ticket was given to Maqsood Khatoon. Four sewing machines were also awarded to winners Shahnaz Bibi, Afreen Kashif, Syeda Kashif, and Syeda Irum Shaikh.
The event was attended by a large number of students from various colleges, faculty members, and the general public.
