Sindh Govt to Tackle Climate Change with Water-Efficient Farming Initiatives

The Sindh government will incorporate climate change mitigation measures into the new budget, focusing on water-efficient agricultural projects and machinery subsidies.

This decision emerged from a Agriculture Department meeting chaired by Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Baksh Mahar today. During the meeting at the Sindh Secretariat, attended by key officials including Agriculture Secretary Sohail Ahmed Qureshi and others, Mahar instructed the preparation of climate-resilient agricultural projects for the upcoming budget. He pointed out the critical need for water-efficient farming practices in the face of climate change and water scarcity.

The minister also pushed for the acceleration of online registration for the Benazir Hari Card, aiming to extend benefits to more farmers across Sindh. To date, 15,000 farmers have registered online, with an additional 16,000 registered manually.

Mahar highlighted the provincial government’s efforts, which include providing 772 drip irrigation systems covering 12,190 acres, distributing kitchen garden kits to 24,191 female farmers, and offering 536 solar-powered tube wells at subsidized rates.
