The Sindh government on Friday initiated a new program to provide scooter riding instruction to female students and professionals, framing the scheme as a crucial step toward achieving practical empowerment and social freedom for women.

Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who also oversees Information and Transport, announced that the training has officially commenced in the Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Malir areas of the city.

The initiative, which focuses on safe riding techniques, began in Hyderabad on December 18 and is slated for expansion to other major urban centers, including Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mirpurkhas. Memon noted that special encouragement will be given to working women applying for “pink scooters” across all districts of Karachi.

The minister emphasized that the objective is to promote secure and convenient mobility, stating that women’s empowerment remains a primary focus for the provincial administration.

He asserted that female autonomy is linked to both economic independence and social liberty, adding that meaningful empowerment is not feasible without access to safe transportation facilities.

According to Memon, the scooter training program is an important step toward building self-confidence, self-reliance, and practical freedom for women. Both students and employed women can benefit from the scheme. For applications and further details, the government has directed interested individuals to visit smta.sindh.gov.pk.
