Sindh University, Adabi Board Agree to Showcase Sindh’s Heritage to Global Audience

The University of Sindh and the Sindhi Adabi Board (SAB) have agreed to expand academic and literary cooperation aimed at promoting Sindh’s cultural heritage, history and civilization through joint research initiatives and publications, particularly in the English language for international readers.

The agreement emerged during a meeting between Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri and Sindhi Adabi Board Chairman Makhdoom Saeed Zaman ‘Atif’ at the board’s office, where both sides explored avenues for collaboration, exchange of publications and coordinated efforts to project Sindh’s intellectual and historical legacy beyond Pakistan.

Dr. Marri stressed the importance of producing English-language books on Sindh’s culture, archaeology, historical landmarks and civilizational heritage, saying such publications would help scholars and researchers worldwide gain a deeper understanding of the province’s rich past and cultural diversity.

He also proposed documenting Jamshoro’s educational, environmental and industrial significance through publications in both Sindhi and English, noting that the district hosts nearly 300 industrial units, including factories, mills and companies. He said better documentation and promotion of the area’s strengths could encourage investment and enhance its international profile.

Highlighting the need to preserve Sindh’s intellectual heritage, the vice-chancellor called for comprehensive publications on the lives and contributions of the province’s saints, poets, Sufi scholars, writers, musicians and intellectuals so that future generations could benefit from their legacy.

As part of the collaboration, Dr. Marri announced that the university would provide the Sindhi Adabi Board with copies of its 12 research journals for review and inclusion in the board’s library. He described the exchange of academic publications as a significant step toward strengthening research and scholarly engagement between the two institutions.

He noted that the research library of the Institute of Sindhology was already serving students and emerging researchers by providing access to rare and valuable reference materials, and emphasized the importance of institutional cooperation in safeguarding and promoting Sindh’s literary and academic traditions.

Makhdoom Saeed Zaman welcomed the proposals and expressed support for publishing English-language books in the coming years. He said the board was already compiling profiles of individuals who had made notable contributions to Sindh’s development and cultural advancement.

The SAB chairman also instructed officials to ensure regular delivery of the board’s literary publications – *Mehran*, *Gul Phul* and *Sartiyoon* – to the vice-chancellor, the university’s central library and the Institute of Sindhology.

During the meeting, Mr. Atif accepted an invitation to visit the University of Sindh after Yaum-e-Ashura and proposed a joint tree plantation campaign on vacant land near the university’s main entrance opposite Jamshoro Railway Station.

Dr. Marri endorsed the proposal and said the university would also facilitate water supply connections for nearby institutions, including the Sindhi Adabi Board, the Sindh Textbook Board, the Board of Curriculum and SOS Village, once a new water connection became operational.

Sindh University spokesman Dr. Nadir Ali Mugheri, Professor Ayaz Ali Wighio and other officials attended the meeting.
