SMEDA Introduces 70% Matching Grant for SMEs Seeking International Certification

Lahore: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has launched a 70% matching grant program aimed at assisting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in obtaining international certifications. The initiative, part of the SME Certification and International Accreditation Grant Programme, seeks to boost competitiveness and export potential by reducing financial and technical barriers to compliance.

According to Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority, the program aligns with the Prime Minister's vision to enhance SME exportability by providing financial support to cover certification costs up to Rs800,000 and related consultancy expenses up to Rs200,000. The grant requires participating SMEs to cover 30% of these costs themselves.

The Ministry of Industries and Production's strategy aims to formalize SMEs and enhance their access to global markets. SMEDA offers matching grants and advisory support to help businesses meet international standards in quality, safety, environmental management, and operational systems. Officials report an encouraging response from entrepreneurs, with the goal to support over 100 SMEs in the current fiscal year.

At the 'Made in Pakistan - SME Cluster Showcase Expo 2026,' several SMEs expressed interest in the certification grant. With applications and approvals already in motion, the program is expected to play a significant role in formalizing the SME sector and boosting exports.

The selection process for the grant is described as merit-based and transparent, with a first-come, first-served application system that ensures compliance with eligibility requirements. The initiative emphasizes support for start-ups, women-led enterprises, and businesses in underserved areas, facilitated by a simplified application process and awareness campaigns.

Interested entrepreneurs can apply through the SMEDA website or the SME Registration Portal, with registration being free. Compliance with recognized standards is highlighted as crucial for enterprise efficiency, consumer safety, and sustainable economic development.
