SMEDA organises 1st Skills Olympic for 11 skills in collaboration with JICA and PAAPAM at Infinity School of Engineering

Lahore, March 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has declared 33 contestants of 9 Auto Parts manufacturing companies as winners of the 1st Skills Olympic held for 11 skills in collaboration with JICA and PAAPAM at Infinity School of Engineering. CEO SMEDA Sher Ayub Khan, along with along with Representatives of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), PAAPAM and Infinity School of Engineering distributed awards among winners of the first, second and third positions.

The contestants, who won the top three positions belong to Jodhala Complex, Ravi Auto Sundar, Al-Badar, Pak Precise, Procon, Risan, Metaline, Darson, Standard Engineering and Precise Mate. The winners of first positions were also provided with a special OEM awards, apart from the specific position prise. Procon, obtaining 2 awards of the first positions, was declared to be the top performer. Similarly, Ravi Auto Sundar, Al-Badar, Darsons and Mataline, winning multiple awards for the top three positions, also showed good performance.

CEO SMEDA Sher Ayub Khan, giving details of the skills competitions, informed that the skills Olympics were held in 11 diverse skills of Auto Parts industry, which include CO2 Arc Welding, Colour Painting, Cutting and Machining, Surface Finishing, Forklift Driving, process Capability Calculation, Standard Work Process planning, Parts inspection, parts Machining, Parts Machining on Lathe Machine, Parts Machining on CNS Turning and Auto CAD.

Giving background of the project, Sher Ayub Khan told that SMEDA and JICA had been executing a 4 years’ comprehensive program to enhance manufacturing capabilities to enhance quality production and increasing share of localization of auto parts. The Japanese way of improving productivity and quality has been introduced in over 50 auto parts manufacturing concerns under the guidance of 5 Japanese Experts since August 2015, he said adding that the Skills Olympics were, in fact, conclusion of the given project. The next series of this Skills Olympic would be held at Karachi on March 9th, 2019 wherein over 150 workers would be competing amongst each other to prove their pre-eminence in respective skills.
