Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has emphasized the urgent need for collective action to prevent smoking, which he has termed a “silent killer” impacting human health. In his message today on World No Tobacco Day, the Chief Minister stressed the shared responsibility of the government, families, educators, and the broader society to protect youth from the dangers of smoking.
Shah described smoking as more than just a habit and termed it a precursor to multiple serious diseases, such as heart and lung diseases. He appealed to the public to refrain from smoking to help form a healthy society and spread awareness about its harmful effects.
According to Shah, the Sindh government is intensifying its anti-tobacco campaigns, especially in educational institutions, to better inform youth about the risks associated with smoking. He instructed the administration to strictly enforce existing smoking laws in public places.
The Chief Minister reiterated that health is a fundamental right and emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting a tobacco-free environment. Under the “Healthy Sindh” initiative, efforts are being made to promote sports, recreational activities, and a positive lifestyle, engaging youth in constructive activities.
Shah affirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and increasing public awareness, stating that a safe and tobacco-free environment can be ensured for future generations.
