South African, Brazilian Covid variants found: Pechuho

KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho informed on Friday that the South African and Brazilian variants of the novel coronavirus had been found in samples taken by the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH).

In her video message, the provincial health minister disclosed that the AKUH collected 13 samples to perform a genomic study confirming the variants of the virus. She added that out of these samples, 10 were of the UK variant, two of the South African variant while one other was found to be of the Brazilian variant. This is an emergency as these variants are not vaccination responsive either.

Therefore, it is important for everyone to take all necessary precautions and take this seriously. Pechuho strongly recommended avoiding crowds and even small scale gathering, as well as travelling unnecessary. If we don’t enforce and follow these protocols we will face a humanitarians crises unlike the same in India. She advised the public to please look after yourself and each other.
