Amid heightened concerns following a recent deadly terrorist attack in the capital, Sri Lanka’s top diplomat has formally expressed satisfaction with the “foolproof” security arrangements established for the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team after a high-level meeting on Wednesday.

The security review was chaired by Federal Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who met with Sri Lankan High Commissioner Rear Admiral (R) Fred Siriweera to discuss the protective measures.

The crucial meeting was also attended by the team managers of both the Sri Lankan and Pakistani cricket squads, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed, and the top brass of the capital’s administration, including the Chief Commissioner and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police.

Officials from the Islamabad administration delivered a comprehensive briefing, outlining the extensive security protocols put in place for the duration of the Sri Lankan team’s stay and matches in the country.

During the discussion, High Commissioner Siriweera conveyed deep sorrow over the loss of life in the recent terror incident. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan.

Interior Minister Naqvi assured the envoy that the Sri Lankan players are being treated as state guests. ‘Providing a safe and secure environment to the visiting players is our top priority,’ he emphasized.

Following the detailed briefing and assurances, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner conveyed his approval of the arrangements, appreciating the government’s dedicated efforts to guarantee the team’s safety and comfort.
