Staff nurse dies of coronavirus in Karachi

KARACHI:Staff nurse of a private hospital in Karachi died of coronavirus here on Tuesday.

The male staff nurse contracted a viral infection in a private hospital and was shifted to Indus Hospital Karachi for treatment. Later, he was brought to the Intensive Care Unit of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where she died during treatment.

Young Nurses Association Sindh has demanded giving status of martyrdom to healthcare professionals and urged the provincial government to announce a package of such frontline workers who died during duties.

In Pakistan, a total of 11 healthcare providers, including five doctors, two nurses, paramedics, and other support staff have lost their lives due to coronavirus pandemic across the country so far.

At least 510 healthcare providers, including 263 doctors, 76 nurses, 171 paramedics, and other support staff have been diagnosed coronavirus so far since the outbreak of the viral disease in Pakistan.

Out of total 510 cases, 128 were affected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 108 in Balochistan, 102 in Punjab, 98 in Sindh, 50 in Islamabad, 20 in Gilgit-Baltistan and four in AJK.
