Students’ continues hunger strike for rights

KARACHI:Following the 100-hour hunger strike, a group of students headed by Sindh Students’ Council (SSC), completed 24-hour out of 100 hours of hunger strike which began on 1st March to be continued till 4th March, outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) for rights of students including restoration of student unions, provision of hostels and free education for all.

A number of students led by SSC chairman Ali Saqlain Chandio, Hoshu Unar and Akbar Rizvi completed their 24-hours of the hunger strike outside KPC. Different political, social activists, lawyers, and intellectuals visited the students’ hunger strike camp and assured them full support for the sake of their fundamental rights.

Khaliq Junejo, a prominent lawyer and Chairman Jeay Sindh Mahaz visited the camp and said that nowadays students are victims of different problems due to not having the right to unions in educational institutions. He stressed that student unions should be restored immediately to strengthen democratic culture.

Akbar Rizvi division organizer of SSC, said they have been struggling for restoration student unions, demilitarization of campuses, safe release of all missing students, free education for all, provision of hostels and action against the issuance of fake domiciles. Separately, SSC has also staged a 100-hour hunger strike outside Hyderabad Press Club for fundamental rights of students.
