Sumjhi, more JI activists arrested in ongoing crackdown

Srinagar, February 24, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested the All Parties Hurriyat Conference General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Samjhi and dozens of Jamaat-e-Islami activists during its ongoing crackdown on leaders of pro-freedom and religious organizations.

Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi was arrested from his Bijbehara residence. Vice President Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and Difaye Jamiat Ahle Hadees leader Maulana Mohammad Maqbool Akhrani were also arrested by the police from their residences in Bijbehara and Devsar in Kulgam.

Thirteen more Jamaat-e-Islami activists were arrested in overnight raids in Islamabad and Shopian districts. Besides, 10 people were also arrested during a string of overnight crackdowns in Shopian. Bashir Ahmad Rather, brother of Peoples League Member Nisar Ahmad Rather was arrested at Dadsara in Tral.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples league Vice Chairman Syed Aajaz Ahmad Rehmani in a statement expressed serious concern over the grand operations against Hurriyat leaders in the Kashmir valley. Syed Aijaz Rehmani in a statement denounced the arrest of party chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and other leaders including Bashir Ahmad Rather and Maulana Mohammad Rafiq Dar during house raids in Islamabad, Tral and Pulwama districts.
