Supreme Court Adopts New Rules to Ensure Faster and Cheaper Justice

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has unanimously ratified the updated Supreme Court Rules, 2025, a landmark decision aimed at overhauling the judicial process to ensure inexpensive and expeditious administration of justice for the public.

The comprehensive endorsement came during a Full Court meeting on Friday, with the new regulations being established under the 27th constitutional amendment. These modernized procedures are designed to significantly improve the efficiency of service delivery within the country’s highest court.

A statement released by the apex court confirmed that the revisions were based on the recommendations of a dedicated committee. This panel was specifically constituted under Rule 1(4) of Order I of the Supreme Court Rules, 2025, to address and remove any difficulties that might arise in implementing the new provisions.

The committee comprised esteemed members of the judiciary, including Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi.

The Full Court extended its sincere appreciation to each member of the judicial body for their diligent efforts. They were lauded for undertaking the massive task of meticulously reviewing the decades-old Supreme Court Rules, 1980, and drafting the new framework to meet contemporary needs.
