Sweeping Security Measures and Park Restrictions Enforced for Eid Celebrations

Authorities in the federal capital today unveiled a comprehensive security strategy for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, featuring designated family-only parks, a clampdown on illegal motoring, and a strict policy against excessive transport fares, following a high-level meeting co-chaired by the Inspector General of Police and the Chief Commissioner.

During a briefing on law and order arrangements, it was announced that Shakarparian National Park, Lake View Park, and Daman-e-Koh Park will be exclusively designated as family parks from 20 to 23 March. F-9 Park, however, will remain accessible to the general public throughout the Eid period.

The high-level meeting, attended by senior officials from Islamabad Police and the district administration, was informed that security has been significantly enhanced at all checkpoints, sensitive locations, and the city”s entry and exit points to ensure public safety.

A detailed security plan has also been formulated for Eid congregations at major prayer venues, including Eidgahs, central mosques, and Imambargahs. Officials confirmed that a special traffic management plan has been devised to handle the flow of worshippers, with a particular focus on the area around Faisal Mosque.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, addressing the attendees, reiterated that ensuring security is the foremost priority. He directed an increase in police patrolling in parks and public areas, supported by the deployment of additional personnel, and confirmed that a flag march will be conducted to maintain order.

The IGP instructed that the traffic plan be publicised in advance to allow citizens to plan their journeys. He warned that strict legal action will be taken against transporters charging exorbitant fares and announced robust operations against illegal activities such as one-wheeling and drifting. The central control room at Islamabad Safe City will remain fully operational to monitor the situation.

Furthermore, special arrangements for both security and traffic management will be implemented around commercial centres, markets, and shopping malls, particularly on Chand Raat. Special camps offering security, traffic assistance, and other services will also be established at major centres across the capital.

In his concluding remarks, IGP Rizvi emphasised the need for all relevant departments to collaborate effectively as a team, aiming to provide a peaceful and convenient environment for citizens to celebrate Eid.
