UNGA passes resolution asking ICJ to define obligations of states to combat climate change

Islamabad, March 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has passed a resolution unanimously asking International Court of Justice (ICJ) to define the obligations of states to combat climate change. The historic resolution made it to the UN General Assembly after a four-year campaign led by the Republic of Vanuatu.

MoU signed to explore, pursue green hydrogen opportunities

Islamabad, March 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s leading exploration and production companies have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore and pursue green hydrogen opportunities within and outside the country. The MoU was signed by the Managing Directors of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, Pak-Arab Refinery Limited, Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Mari Petroleum Company Limited, and Government Holdings Private Limited on behalf of their respective companies in Islamabad.

The collaboration aims to drive the energy transition towards a more sustainable future, leveraging each company’s expertise and resources. Federal Secretary Petroleum Division, Muhammad Mahmood, witnessed the MoU signing ceremony. Under the MoU, these companies will consider joint venture projects and areas of mutual cooperation for green energy initiatives. The companies will also establish a joint fund to raise equity for hydrogen projects. As a first step, feasibility will be conducted to formally initiate the project.

Government working for women’s inclusion in every sector: Prime Minister

Islamabad, March 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): An 18-member delegation of women parliamentarians belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today. Talking to the members of the delegation, the Prime Minister said the parliament has the power to legislate for improvement of administrative affairs. He said the constitution of Pakistan was the guarantor of maintaining a balance between all institutions.

The Prime Minister said women comprise 51 percent of the country’s total population, therefore their participation in the legislation process is very important. He said the government is working for women’s inclusion in every sector.

2nd Pakistan Navy Ship carrying relief assistance reaches Syria

Islamabad, March 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Second Pakistan Navy Ship PNS MOAWIN carrying relief assistance reached Lattakia in Syria today. The ship brought a second consignment of relief goods comprising warm clothing, blankets, and ration for earthquake affectees of Syria.

Upon arrival at the port Lattakia, the ship was received by the Governor of Lattakia and other dignitaries. The Governor of Lattakia expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Navy for providing exceptional support during this time of need.

EU’s decision to remove Pakistan from the list of high-risk countries

Islamabad, March 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): We welcome the decision by the European Union to remove Pakistan from the list of high-risk countries thus recognizing Pakistan’s performance in overcoming technical issues in its Anti-Money Laundering / Countering Financing of Terrorism. This follows UK’s decision to remove Pakistan from a similar list in November 2022.

The removal from the list will ease financial transactions between entities from Pakistan and the European Union. Pakistan looks forward to building on this development for mutually beneficial economic cooperation with the European Union and sharing its experience in the up-gradation of AML/CFT regimes with partner countries.

2nd Round of Pakistan-Malaysia Bilateral Political Consultations

Islamabad, March 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Second Round of Pakistan-Malaysia Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 28 March 2023. The talks were co-chaired by Additional Foreign Secretary (Asia and Pacific), Mumtaz Zahra Baloch and Dato’ Norman Bin Muhamad, Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.

The two sides reviewed the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Malaysia relations and renewed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral strategic partnership. Pakistan and Malaysia will enhance engagement and dialogue at all levels, revitalize existing bilateral mechanisms and establish new areas of engagement.

The two countries will increase cooperation across multiple domains including bilateral trade and investment, defence and security, agriculture and food security, energy, health, education, and science and technology. Parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people contacts will be encouraged, including hiring of additional Pakistani manpower to Malaysia.

There was a convergence of views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest, including regional peace and security, islamophobia and climate change. The two sides reiterated their interest in close cooperation at multilateral platforms including in OIC and the UN. Pakistan also expressed a desire for enhanced engagement with ASEAN, leading to a full-dialogue partnership. Additional Foreign Secretary conveyed the gratitude to Malaysia for its generous support and humanitarian assistance for flood affectees in Pakistan.

Development of Balochistan Govt’s top priority: Prime Minister

Islamabad, March 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that development of Balochistan particularly Gwadar is among the foremost priorities of the government. He was talking to Member National Assembly from Gwadar Mohammad Aslam Bhootani, who called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said Gwadar carries a lot of significance in connection with China Pakistan Economic Corridor. During the meeting, Aslam Bhootani apprised the Prime Minister about ongoing development schemes and issues confronted by the people of his constituency. The Prime Minister assured of solution to all these problems. Overall political situation of the country also came under discussion during the meeting.
