Clarification: Streamlining the “Footpath Schools” for adequate and sustainable education solutions for street / other underprivileged children

Karachi, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Sindh Education Foundation has clarified the factual position in response the news circulating in the media. According to the details, with the advent of the dreadful incident of baby Zainab and with the history of the vulnerability of the vicinities of Mazars and Shrines in Sindh along with increasing trends in beggary near landmark locations, the Government of Sindh had constituted and notified a Committee with a view to examine the issue of increasing trends of begging by children in and around Mazars, lakes and subsequently other shrines etc.

The broad objectives were to facilitate rehabilitation and schooling and training solutions for children / adolescents while exploring the most viable solutions for addressing the issue of Footpath Schools in the province in general and area surrounding Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar (Karachi), vicinity of Qalandar’s Mazar in Sehwan and proximity of Manchar Lake, initially as test cases.

To Committee was tasked to examine the options on incentivizing students and determine the most suitable option of providing the students with small meal components of basic need items etc. given their special requirements and also to negotiate with the organizations/ parents / communities that could help in rehabilitation of students. The Committee was also tasked to look into the availability of possible options for bringing children of footpath schools into the fold of mainstream education.

The Committee in pursuance of its TORs held its first meeting on 29th January 2018 with apositive intent to move forward and work together with Civil Society. The School Education and Literacy Department offered for providing a full school building to accommodate education of the students presently enrolled in the footpath school at different locations in the nearby schools starting with the ‘Footpath School’ run by M/S Ocean Welfare Organization in front of Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar, for necessary arrangements i.e. Teachers, furniture and text books and the budget will be provided.

The Government is willing to work together with M/S Ocean Welfare Organization and build upon their good relations with the communities and the street / vulnerable children so that a formal education platform is provided to these children in order to secure their future and to avoid any accidents / incidents that can threaten the well- being of these children. The Government intends to provide a more appropriate mechanism for rehabilitating the students coming from special circumstances.

Representative from M/S Ocean Welfare Organization suggested to get a written proposal / intimation from the School Education and Literacy Department which will be examined by their Board, the clarification concluded.

Camp Court of the Appellate Tribunal Local Councils Sindh fixed on 07th February 2018 at Hyderabad

Karachi, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): Ms. Arjumand Aziz, Honourable Chairperson / Judge, Appellate Tribunal Local Councils Sindh is scheduled to hear appeals pertaining to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, Town Committees, District Councils and Union Councils etc. (Local Governments) of the Division Hyderabad is fixed on 07th February, 2018 at 9:00 am. She shall hold the Camp of the Honourable Tribunal at District and Sessions Court Hyderabad.

Minister Planning and Development Sindh presides over first meeting for Census 2017

Karachi, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): The first high level committee for census 2017 was presided by minister planning and development Sindh at his office today. In the light of decisions made in 34th meeting of council of common interest (CCI). It was decided to compose divisional and district committees for carrying out third party validation of 5 percent census blocks to remove suspicions and objections raised against census 2017.

The divisional committee will be headed by divisional commissioner as its convener and committee will consist of one MNA chairman local government. While district committees will include one MPA Chairman local council and Deputy Commissioner as its convener. It was decided that this committee will complete its working within a three months’ time frame.

Besides it was also decided that an experts committee consisting of a Director Bureau of statics one Senior Manager Information Technology (IT) and one additional secretary local government will visit Islamabad to receive requisite data of sampling blocks from census commission of Pakistan after that validation of five percent census blocks will be started. It is reminded here that in 34th meeting of CCI it had been decided that as it was impossible to verify all census blocks so some five percent census blocks will be randomly validated by a third party.

Minister Excise orders to suspend Excise Inspector

Karachi, January 30, 2018 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla has ordered to suspend Excise Inspector Mumtaz Soomro from Dadu, who is found involved in immoral activities. He asked the Director General ET and NC Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui to probe into the matter and bring the facts on surface.

Nasir Shah inaugurates exhibition at Jinnah University for Women

Karachi, January 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport and Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah today inaugurated the Exhibition organized by the Department of Visual Studies, Jinnah University of Women Nazimabad here. Chancellor Mr. Wajihuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Dr. M. Naeem Farooqui, Head of Department Visual Studies Ms. Shehla Yasmeen, Faculty Members and students welcomed the Minister.

The Minister Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has went around all 48 stalls, where the students are displaying their items which depicting the colour of Life style, Culture, Civilization and other impacts of life over Fashion, Textile and Graphic designs made during the exhibition.

Student of Final year Fashion, Graphic and Textile design, Visual Studies briefed the Minister about their work and displays with special reference to the whole Pakistan including Gilgit Baltistan etc. They also briefed that their unique work is being fulfilled the demand of government as well as the private sector throughout the Country.

Addressing the Ceremony, after inauguration of the said exhibition, the Minister Labour, Transport and Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has appreciated the work of the students and congratulated the faculty and their trainers who made possible the exhibition in a appropriate level for further boost the talents and skills of the girls students.

The Minister Information has further said our girls are very talented and had a lot of skills to show their real picture, they should be encouraged and appreciated at every level. He said that the University had a special status as the First Woman Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in her tenure gave empowerment to Pakistan women to play their due role in the society with provided maximum opportunities at every level.

In this regard many practical steps had been taken including establishment of First Women Police Station, First Women Bank and after that First ever Women University had been established in private sector by the efforts of Founder of the University Late Alhaj Riazuddin Ahmed who rendered his whole life for the Women Education. He also ran various educational institutions and provided a quality and free education to the students of all over of Pakistan.

The Minister further said that to follow her mother, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also giving special attention to the women education and directed the government to provide maximum opportunities to the woman segments at every level. He offered his full support on behalf of government and PPP to provide maximum facilities to women with special reference to women education in Sindh and in all other sectors, he added.

Earlier Chancellor Mr. Wajihuddin briefed the Minister about the services of late Alhaj Riazuddin Ahmed in the field of women education and provided quality education to all, he said that HEC, SHEC and others are recognized the rating and the university had maintained the standard as per requirements. He also informed that hostel facilities are being provided to girls student of out of city and came for studies in the University.

Sindh government vows to alleviate poverty and improve safety and security of poor farmers: Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani

Karachi, January 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): Minister Planning and Development Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has said that the security safety and development of poor male and female farmers of Sindh has always remained the first priority of PPP government it is therefore we allotted thousands hectors of irrigated land to indigent farmers in previous government and passed resolution for writing off interests on agricultural borrowings this he said while addressing an inaugurating ceremony of a project named Improved Land Tenancy in Sindh started with donation and assistance of European Union and food and Agriculture Organization of the United nation in a hotel here in Karachi.

It is noteworthy to mention here Sindh Government has launched this project to tackle the problems of water and food shortage and to enhance relationship between male and female farmers and landlords. By this program 504 farmer field schools and women opening schools will be started to train female farmers about economical utilization of scare water food and natural resources for improved livelihoods and poverty alleviation in Sindh.

Under this project some 4800 informal tenancy agreements will be signed for strengthening relationship between landlords and farmers. This four year project has been designed to assist around 12600 household in eight districts of Sindh i.e. Dadu, Larkano, Jamshoro, Matiyari, Mirpur Khas, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan.

Minister Planning and Development Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani appreciated European Union and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for supporting Government of Sindh in water sector improvement program, building the resilience of farming communities in face of natural disasters, improvement in farm productivity and income generation. It will indeed contribute to responsible land and water governance and help the government and land users to address challenges they face regarding agriculture production and natural resource management he concluded.

Ban period extended

Karachi, January 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Government of Sindh, Home Department has in continuation of Notification, the ban u/s 144 Cr. PC imposed on Reti / Bajri and all kinds of minerals from un-authorised sites in jurisdiction of District Jamshoro extended for a period of 180 days with immediate effect.
