An extensive security initiative in the federal capital has led to the screening of nearly 58,000 individuals, with 3,383 suspicious persons apprehended, including 362 illegally residing Afghan nationals. These individuals have been transferred to police stations for further verification.
According to a police report today, the Islamabad Police, acting on special directives from Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has been conducting joint grand combing and search operations targeting offenders and undocumented residents across multiple localities of the city.
During the first quarter of 2026, a total of 597 such search operations were executed. These efforts were overseen by SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza and the respective zonal SPs.
Personnel from the Counter Terrorism Department, various police stations, other law enforcement agencies, and lady police units participated, ensuring a more thorough and comprehensive inspection process.
In addition to the personnel checks, over 25,000 residences, 6,871 commercial establishments, and 2,188 hotels were inspected. Furthermore, 19,343 motorcycles and 6,884 other vehicles underwent scrutiny.
Concurrently with the detentions, law enforcement also impounded 109 vehicles and 1,751 motorbikes.
Under the “Weapon-Free Islamabad” campaign, stringent measures were enforced against individuals possessing illicit firearms. The confiscated weaponry included 12 Kalashnikovs, four rifles, eight shotguns, 64 pistols of various calibres, six daggers, and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
In a continuation of the “Nasha Ab Nahi” (No More Drugs) movement, significant campaigns were mounted against drug traffickers throughout the capital. This year”s seizures included five kilogrammes of hashish, six kilogrammes of heroin, five kilogrammes of ice (methamphetamine), and 87 bottles of alcoholic beverages.
IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi affirmed that maintaining peace and order within the city remains the foremost objective, pledging continued decisive action against criminal elements and illicit activities. He emphasised that these combing initiatives are designed to deter crime and foster a secure environment for residents.
He further articulated that the police force is discharging its duties with unwavering professional dedication, stressing that enduring peace is achievable only through public cooperation. Citizens are urged to fully collaborate with law enforcement during these inspections and promptly report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station or the emergency helpline, Pucar-15.
