Prominent textile industrialist Asif Inam has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors for Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC), prompting expressions of hope from business leaders that he will tackle the persistent energy issues affecting the commercial sector.
According to FPCCI statement today, the appointment was welcomed by Malik Khuda Bakhsh, President of the Pakistan Business Group (Karachi Region), who congratulated Mr Inam, a Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Mr Inam, an active leader within the United Business Group, is described as a distinguished industrialist with significant international exposure from extensive travel throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada, and the Middle and Far East.
According to Mr Bakhsh, the new SSGC head possesses specialised expertise in the cotton and textile industries, having conducted significant research in these fields. He is noted for his deep understanding of national energy challenges, particularly their impact on the textile industry, and his views on economic matters are frequently featured on national media platforms.
In his corporate capacity, Mr Inam serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Diamond International Corporation Limited, a textile spinning enterprise with an approximate annual turnover of Rs 12 billion. He also holds the position of Chairman and Director at Cotton Mills Limited, another prominent spinning mill with a yearly turnover of about Rs 14 billion.
Mr Bakhsh remarked that Mr Inam is a ‘valuable asset’ to the gas sector, stating it is hoped he will focus with great dedication on addressing the difficulties the business community faces regarding energy.
Congratulations were also extended to the other newly elected directors: Zuhair Siddiqui, Saira Najeeb Ahmed, Usman Ahmed Chaudhry, Muhammad Dawood Bazai, Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Rehan Hashmi, Mohammad Ali Khan, Khalid Rahman, Salima Feerasta, and Navaid Malik.
