Thar Jeep Rally to be held from March 26 to 29 in Sindh’s desert region of Thar

The Sindh Sports Department confirmed on Tuesday that the upcoming Thar Jeep Rally will be transformed into a multi-faceted cultural event, featuring traditional races and a music program alongside the main off-road competition. The four-day event will be held from March 26 to 29 in the Thar Desert, with official preparations for the track already underway.

Details of this decision emerged after a key meeting in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Sports Secretary, Manwar Ali Mahesar, which was also attended by representatives of the Motor Association. Additional Secretary Asad Ishaq and other officials, including Syed Zaheer Hussain Shah, Rehan Qureshi, DSO Vasdev Malhi, and Ali Dino Gopang, were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on plans to include a motorbike race, traditional horse and camel races, and a special music program in this spectacular motorsport event.

Secretary Mahesar stated that the purpose of these additions is to make this year’s rally “more colorful,” offering spectators a “beautiful blend of sport and culture.”

The rally’s schedule has also been finalized. Vehicle registration and technical inspection will take place on March 26, followed by the qualifying race on March 27. The Stock category competition will be held on March 28, while the Prepared category competition and the closing ceremony will be held on March 29. Competitions will be held in Stock, Ladies, and Prepared categories.

Officials expect this expanded event to significantly promote tourism in the region, strengthen the local economy, and highlight local cultural activities.

Mr. Mahesar reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to organizing major sports and healthy recreational events for the youth.

According to a spokesperson, Sports Minister Mohammad Bux Mahar will be the chief guest at the event. Other prominent figures expected to attend include Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Syed Zulfiqar Shah, and Members of the Sindh Assembly Nader Magsi and Qasim Siraj Soomro.
