Former MNA and Advisor for Maritime Affairs, Mehmood Molvi, criticized the deteriorating condition of Karachi, citing incompetence, apathy, and lack of political will as the root causes of the city’s decline. Once considered a symbol of Pakistan’s progress, Karachi, the country’s economic hub, now faces numerous challenges.
Addressing a gathering, Mehmood Molvi emphasized Karachi’s crucial role as Pakistan’s economic engine. He lamented that the metropolis suffers from basic issues including poor public services, sanitation, transportation, infrastructure, and municipal operations.
While acknowledging the Karachi mayor’s apparent activities, Mehmood Molvi blamed the inactivity of the city’s representatives and municipal institutions for the city’s worsening problems. Despite claims of resource availability by the current administration, tangible improvements are yet to be seen.
Mehmood Molvi stressed that mere statements are not enough; a coordinated strategy is essential. He urged the mayor to launch a comprehensive campaign, involving local representatives and municipal institutions to address all issues, big and small.
Expressing disappointment, he referred to Karachi’s tragedy, once a symbol of progress, now facing criticism nationwide. He held political groups responsible for this decline, prioritizing their interests over the city’s betterment. Naming the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he cited their alleged mismanagement in Larkana, questioning their ability to improve Karachi.
Mehmood Molvi appealed to the citizens of Karachi to raise their voices, emphasizing that their silence will perpetuate the city’s decline. He urged all political parties, the municipal government, and civil society to sincerely cooperate for the city’s betterment, highlighting Karachi’s vital role in Pakistan’s overall development.
