Thousands celebrate Sindh Cultural Day; Major events held in Karachi

KARACHI:Sindh Cultural Day was today celebrated with traditional zeal and fervor in many cities, towns and villages of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Khairpur, Dadu, Nawabshah, where colorful events and national songs enthralled the participants.

In Karachi, the main gathering was held at Karachi Press Club, which was organized by Times News, a Sindh TV channel, and Pahenji Akhbar newspaper in which thousands of people participated while a separate joint gathering was also arranged by four TV channels KTN, Dharti, Awaz TV and Mehran TV. The speakers at these programs highlighted the culture of Sindh and called for protecting it at all costs. Sweets and gifts of Ajrak and Sindhi Topi were also distributed among the participants. Hundreds of people joined this joint gathering.

Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz activists and leaders, led by their Sanan Qureshi took out a rally from Gulshan-e-Hadeed to Karachi Press Club where a big gathering was held, which was also joined by leaders and workers of Sindh United Party (SUP) and Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STPP) activists. The people in all KPC gatherings raised the slogans of Jeay Sindh and danced on the tunes of national songs. Later, all people at KPC mixed in all gatherings to show unity and highlight the culuture of Sindh.

In Badin, A 50-meter-long flag with printed Ajrak was raised by the Principal in National School and College in Badin and a big function was also arranged there to highlight the culture of Sindh. Sweets were also distributed among the participants. A rally was also taken out in the city by social and political parties which marched through various roads.

In Hyderabad and Sukkur, big rallies were taken out which marched through various roads. The participants raised slogans of Jeay Sindh and also sang folk songs of Sindh besides dancing on their tunes. They were wearing Ajraks and Sindh caps.

In Nawabshah, Sufi people joined the rally of the Sindhi people decorated with Sindhi dresses and Ajraks. They danced with zeal and sang Sufi songs that mesmerized the participants. The city was echoed with national songs of Sindh.

In Pano Aqil, a rally with 200-foot-long Ajrak was staged. The participants marched through various roads of the city and danced to the tunes of Sindhi songs. The sweets were also distributed by citizens belonging to all segments of the society.

In Kandhkot, a rally was taken out from Kashmore road which marched through various roads. The participants raised slogans of Jeay Sindh and also sang folk songs of Sindh besides dancing on their tunes.

A rally was also taken out in Larkan, in which people belonging to social and political parties wore Ajrak and Sindhi caps. They sang national songs of Sindh soil and danced on their musical tunes.They also exchanged gifts of Ajrak and Topi besides distributing sweets. They also raised slogans of ‘Jeay Sindh, Jeay-Sindh Wara Jean’.

In Khairpur, a rally was also taken out by people belonging to social and political parties. The people wore Ajrak and Sindhi caps and sang national songs of Sindh soil. Leaders in this rally called for protecting culture of Sindh.

Sindhi Cultural Day is a popular annual cultural festival and is widely celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and respect to highlight the centuries-old rich culture of Sindh soil. The day is celebrated not only all over Sindh, but also across the world where Sindhis are living. The people of Sindh celebrate this day to demonstrate the peaceful identity of Sindhi culture and acquire the attention of the world towards their rich culture heritage.

All political, social and religious organizations of Sindh, besides the Sindh Culture Department and administrations of various schools, colleges and universities, organize variety of events including seminars, debates, folk music programs, drama and theatric performances, tableaus and literary sittings to mark this annual festivity. Sindhi culture, history and heritage are highlighted at the events.
