Thumb Injury Forces Last-Minute Shake-Up in Pakistan Women’s Squad for South Africa Tour

Pakistan”s white-ball squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa have undergone a late alteration after Rameen Shamim was ruled out due to a thumb injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Tuesday.

Shamim sustained a left-hand thumb IPJ dislocation during a training session at the National Bank Stadium. The injury has sidelined the cricketer for an estimated four to six weeks, prompting her immediate withdrawal from the tour to begin a rehabilitation process.

In her place, the women’s national selection committee has called up off-spinning all-rounder Umm-e-Hani for both the One-Day International and Twenty20 International squads.

The change has prompted a reshuffle in the Pakistan Women’s ‘A’ team, which Hani was originally slated to captain. Omaima Sohail has now been drafted into the ‘A’ squad as Hani”s replacement for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament.

Consequently, Hafsa Khalid has been appointed as the new captain for the Pakistan Women’s ‘A’ side for the 20-over competition set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand.

The senior Pakistan Women’s T20I contingent is scheduled to depart for South Africa on 7 February, while the ‘A’ squad will leave for Bangkok three days later on 10 February.
