Time for India to shun non-interference policy, boasts Foreign Minister Jaishankar

Ahmedabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while brazenly rejecting the global norm of non-interference in the issues of other countries has called for changing the approach as per India’s present-day capacity. S Jaishankar said this at Ahmedabad in Gujarat during the launch of the Gujarati translation of his book, “The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World.”

At the event to unveil his book, the Indian Minister justified his pro-interference statement by saying “It is possible that we did not have the capacity and it was not in our interest in the 1950s and 1960s, but some days back, we became the fifth largest economy [and now we should interfere in others’ affairs].”

He went on to add: “The thinking of someone on the 20th number and 5th number cannot be the same. We should change according to our capacity. The confidence that we should display is not there, and it is not so because our habits keep us tied up.”

He also made a mention of Mahabharat [Greater India], a Hindutva concept, on the occasion. Analysts question whether frequent statements by Indian rulers about promoting terrorism inside Pakistan and attacking Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are part of the India’s new policy as stated by S. Jaishankar.
