TLP Offices Sealed in Capital After Violent Protests Leave Five Dead

Authorities have shut down multiple offices of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in the federal capital following a series of deadly demonstrations this week that resulted in five fatalities and scores of injuries, official sources confirmed Thursday.

The Islamabad district administration took action to seal TLP centers located in Bharakahu, Sohan, and other areas. The move comes as a direct response to the party’s protest marches, which escalated into widespread violence.

This decisive measure followed an announcement from the Punjab government, which revealed its intention to request a federal ban on the TLP, describing it as an ‘extremist party.’ The provincial leadership, in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, approved what it termed ‘historic and extraordinary measures’ to restore the writ of the state.

The recent unrest ignited earlier this week when law enforcement agencies moved to dismantle a TLP protest camp in Muridke. The situation deteriorated as party supporters attempted to march towards Islamabad to express solidarity with Gaza and Palestine, defying a ban on public gatherings imposed under Section 144.

The ensuing confrontation between demonstrators and security forces turned fatal. Police officials reported that one Station House Officer (SHO) was martyred in the clashes. At least 48 other policemen sustained injuries, with 17 of them wounded by gunfire.

The violence also claimed the lives of three TLP workers and one passerby, while at least 30 other civilians were reported injured.

The demonstrations caused extensive damage to public and private property. Reports confirmed that at least 40 government and private vehicles were torched, and several shops were set ablaze during the turmoil.

The government has vowed to maintain public order and has committed to taking strict action against individuals involved in inciting violence and damaging state assets.
