A high-level meeting of parliamentary leaders underscored the urgent necessity for enhanced harmony between the federation and the provinces, identifying it as essential for effective national policymaking and the consolidation of democracy.

According to an official report released from Karachi today, the discussion took place at the Parliament House, where the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, hosted his counterpart from the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah. The dialogue was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant, Tariq Fatemi, and MNA Nawabzada Amir Ali Khan Magsi.

Speaker Sadiq remarked that close coordination and consultation among all legislative institutions are fundamental for reinforcing democratic principles. He noted that proficient communication between the national and provincial assemblies plays a pivotal role in refining the legislative process.

Echoing these sentiments, Speaker Shah stated that inter-parliamentary collaboration not only helps in resolving public issues but also champions democratic values and institutional stability. He stressed the need for joint initiatives to bolster this synergy, adding that the exchange of experiences between legislative bodies would improve the overall quality of legislation.

During the meeting, Speaker Shah also provided a briefing on the upcoming 2nd Joint CPA Asia and South-East Asia Regional Conference, which the Sindh Branch is scheduled to host in Karachi in February.

Mr Fatemi, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant, described the promotion of parliamentary linkages as a pressing requirement. He emphasised that concord between the federation and the provinces is indispensable for crafting policies that serve the national interest.

The conversation also encompassed the country’s prevailing political situation, key matters of national significance, and other issues of mutual concern.
