Torrential rain with strong winds in Khyber PK and Balochistan, 6 dead

At least six people, including women and children, have lost their lives in different incidents due to stormy rains and hailstorms in various areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These deaths occurred in incidents of lightning strikes and roof collapses due to severe weather conditions.

Five people were killed by a lightning strike and a house collapse in Bolan and Bajaur. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the bad weather has created a flood-like situation in several districts including Harnai, Chaman, Kalat, and Surab.

The ensuing flash floods caused severe disruption, washing away vehicles and blocking link roads. In Tehsil Gulistan, rescue services successfully rescued 12 people after a passenger van and a truck were swept away by floodwaters.

In a separate incident in Harnai, the occupants of a car narrowly escaped by jumping from their stuck vehicle, while six other trucks were trapped in a flooded ravine.

The severe weather, including hailstorms, in the northern areas of Balochistan such as Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and Ziarat has also caused significant damage to local agriculture. According to reports, apple, apricot, cherry, almond, fig, plum, and pomegranate orchards have been affected by the floods.

The spell of bad weather extended to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where in Bhakkar, a woman was killed and a child was injured due to the collapse of a room’s roof caused by heavy rain.
