Srinagar, January 19, 2023 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, posters have paid glowing tributes to innocent Kashmiris, martyred by Indian troops in the territory. Posters appeared in Srinagar and adjoining areas, urging people to observe complete shutdown in Srinagar and adjoining areas to remember the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres. Over 50 people were martyred and hundreds others were injured when Indian troops had opened fire on peaceful protesters in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990. The demonstrators were protesting against the molestation of several women by the Indian troops in the area.
On 25 January 1990, at least 21 Kashmiris were martyred by the Indian troops in north Kashmir’s Handwara town. On 27th January in 1994, a day after India’s Republic Day, Indian troops had massacred 27 civilians in Kupwara town. The Kupwara massacre was carried out by Indian troops to punish people for observing a shutdown on January 26. The posters, displaced by Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement and Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, recalling the great sacrifices of the victims, reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to take the martyrs’ mission to its logical conclusion.
Posters with writing “Unbelievable…unexplainable” were pasted on walls and poles in the territory. The posters, carrying pictures of martyrs of the massacre, demanded of the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute. The posters said the whole territory has been turned into a military garrison. People through posters have been urged to observe Black Day on 26th January on Indian Republic Day and boycott all Indian official functions.
Terming the so-called Indian Republic Day celebrations a cruel joke, it said that India should read the clear message from the people of Kashmir that they have always rejected its illegal occupation. There is only one demand of the people and that is the right to self-determination as guaranteed by the United Nations Security Council resolutions, the posters said and urged the United Nations to take action against the heinous crimes of Indian forces in the occupied territory.
