UMERKOT:On the special instructions of the Chief Minister Sindh, Provincial Minister for Information Science and Technology Taimur Talpur presided over a meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office in the Darbar Hall in the city to review arrangements to tackle possible rains due to cyclone.
Talpur said that all resources should be utilized to deal with the emergency situation while major canals and drains should be cleaned immediately. He directed DHO concerned to ensure the availability of anti-epidemic drugs in the hospitals during the rains and directed officials to ensure spray to prevent Malaria. He directed the officers of all concerned departments to provide relief and assistance to the people during emergencies and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Umerkot, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon briefed the meeting about the complete preparations and arrangements made by the administration. He said that the district administration had played its full role in rehabilitating the affected families during the last rains and this time, it would also deal with the emergency situation.
He said an emergency alert had been issued in the district and full preparations had been made to deal with the emergency. He said that if 300mm rain falls this time, the unpaved areas may be damaged for which 45 government buildings under the administration of the district administration had been declared as relief camps while 16 veterinary teams formed besides forming relief committees to meet any emergency situation.
“There are also 480 tents with relief goods. The 12 dewatering pumps have also been arranged to drain out standing water in the cities, while 11 fire brigade vehicles and two electric boats, tractors and water generators have also been arranged,” he added.
A control room has also been set up in the district to deal with the emergency situation. ADCs, SSP, all Assistant Commissioners and officers of the relevant departments also participated in the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by Pakistan Peoples Party’s MPA Rana Hameer Singh, former MPA Ali Murad Rajar, former Municipal Committee Chairman Khalid Siraj Soomro and other PPP leaders.
