UN criticizes ‘disturbing’ arrest of Khurram Parvez in IIOJK

Geneva, November 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Mary Lawlor, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders has condemned the arrest of Khurram Parvez, a Srinagar-based rights defender, by Indian authorities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders in a tweet while condemning the Indian forces’ action against Parvez said, “I’m hearing disturbing reports that Khurram Parvez was arrested today in Kashmir and is at risk of being charged by authorities in India with terrorism-related crimes. He’s not a terrorist; he’s a Human Rights Defender.”

David Kaye, the former UN Special Rapporteur on Promotion and Protection of The Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression also took to the Twitter and said, the detention of Parvez is as yet another extraordinary abuse in Kashmir by India’s ‘counter-terrorism’ NIA.
