University of turbat Emphasises Societal Impact Over Mere Degree Conferral in Key Academic Review

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat (UoT) today asserted that the fundamental purpose of higher education is the generation of new knowledge for societal betterment, not merely the awarding of degrees, during a key academic board meeting on Thursday.

The 24th session of the university”s Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB), chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, convened to resolve a range of academic issues. The board reviewed graduate research progress, including synopsis defences, thesis submissions, and evaluation reports for various postgraduate programmes.

In its deliberations, the ASRB also confirmed admissions for the 2026 academic year and addressed other agendas concerning advanced studies. Discussions centred on upholding high research standards, reinforcing compliance with Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines, and fostering innovation-driven research with tangible impact.

Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan stressed the institution”s commitment to holding regular meetings of its statutory bodies to prevent unnecessary delays or disruptions for scholars and administrative processes. He remarked that it is the university”s duty to provide researchers with a conducive academic environment that nurtures creativity and innovation.

Board members contributed constructive proposals aimed at strengthening thesis evaluation mechanisms, improving research collaboration between faculty and students, and aligning the institution”s research priorities with national development objectives.

The meeting was attended by a distinguished group of academic leaders, including Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor (TI), Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Languages; Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; and Dr. Muzaffir Hussain, Dean of the Faculty of Law. Also present were Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, several departmental directors, the principal of Government Shaheed Ayoub Buledi College, and other senior faculty members.
