Fears are mounting that the nationwide anti-polio initiative across Balochistan faces a potential postponement owing to the province’s worsening security conditions.

According to sources within the Polio Emergency Centre Balochistan today, there are significant concerns that the immunisation drive, which includes Quetta and other districts, might be deferred due to the unstable security environment.

The national anti-polio campaign was originally slated to commence on 2 February 2026. However, officials at the Polio Emergency Centre have confirmed that a conclusive decision on its launch is now contingent upon a thorough review of the prevailing security landscape.

In an effort to safeguard vaccination teams, discussions are currently underway with district administration officials and security bodies. It is anticipated that a revised schedule for the provincial polio eradication drive will be announced at a later date.
