KARACHI: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday announced $1 million assistance for Pakistan to support the victims of the recent devastating floods.
In a tweet, Secretary Blinken said: “We stand by Pakistan in hard times and offer our support to flood victims.” He added: “In addition to $100,000 in immediate relief, the US announced $1 million to build resilience against natural disasters, and we continue to work together to mitigate future impacts of the climate crisis.”
According to a local report, over 590 people have been killed in heavy rains and floods in Pakistan this monsoon season so far. As per Provincial Disaster Management Authority’s today report, death toll from recent monsoon rains and floods in different parts of Balochistan has risen to 202, including 96 men, 48 women and 58 children, while 81 persons have been injured. Pakistan’s army, navy and other organizations were busy to rescue people and provide relief aid in the rain-flood affected areas.
