Warah Barrage growers stage sit-in for water

LARKANA: Growers and farmers of Warah Barrage took out a rally and held a sit-in in front of the residence of Sindh Irrigation Minister Suhail Anwer Siyal here on Wednesday.

They shouted slogans on drum beats which also attracted a large number of residents. The agitating growers belonged to various villages of Kambar-Shahdadkot district including Karira, Jhor Lashari, Bharmi, Hussain Ali Khuhawar, Ali Khan Brohi, Qurban Khuhawar and others villages.

Farmers including Mohsin Kazmi, Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, Mushtaque Brohi and others complained that acute water scarcity is being made since last month in various minors of Warah Barrage including Kor Dato, Hakim Shah, Muhabat Shakh, Hasla Shakh, Panhwaro Shakh and other minors due to which due to which thousands of acres of fertile agricultural lands have become arid and the growers are extremely worried about their future.

They said they wanted to protest against the water shortage before but they were assured that water will be provided to us within three days but despite passage of one week their issue has not yet been resolved which is highhandedness. They said if water is not quickly released then their family members will face hunger. They demanded immediate provision of irrigation water enabling them to sow paddy seedlings or else, they warned, they will expand their protest.
