Webinar of Sports Goods sector on ‘African Market Procedures, Market Standards, Issues of African Market and Awareness to Exporters related to entrance in African Market i.e., Africa Region’

Karachi, December 23, 2020 (PPI-OT): The Engineering and Minerals Division (E and M), Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Karachi organized a webinar of Sports Goods sector on 16-12-2020 in collaboration with Trade Missions in Africa to explore business opportunities for enhancing exports of Sports Goods sector under look Africa policy initiative. Key note speakers of the webinar were Mr. Arshad Javed Sandal, Chairman, PSGMEA, Sialkot, Trade and Investment Officers of African region including Mr. Junaid Ahmed (Casablanca), Mr. Muhammad Qazafi Rind (Algiers), Mr. L D Khan (Nairobi), Mr. Shoaib Anwar (Dakar), Mr. Ali Tamkin Butt (Lagos), Ms. Sidrah Haque (Cairo) and Ms. Humaira Israr (Johannesburg). The webinar was attended by more than 70 participants including representatives of relevant trade associations and leading exporters of the Sports Goods sector.

Dr. Hamid Ali, Director General, E and M Division, TDAP Karachi welcomed the participants and apprised them about this prolific opportunity of acquiring in-depth knowledge about trade potential, export procedures, certification requirements and issues related to the Sports Goods sector for entering into the African market.

Mr. Arshad Javed Sandal, Chairman, PSGMEA in his introductory remarks appreciated TDAP for holding this awareness session and highlighted the immense potential and competitive edge of Pakistan’s Sports Goods sector. He also emphasized on the need of exploring and entering potential African markets with proactive, concerted and dedicated marketing efforts, by developing effective linkages through delegations, exhibitions and B2B interactive sessions to enhance the market share of Pakistan Sports Goods in Africa region.

Trade and Investment Officers briefed that Africa is a non-traditional and untapped market with huge potential for Pakistan Sports Goods sector. To capture market share, Pakistani exporters have to ensure their presence in the African market by sending delegations, actively participating in the exhibitions, ensuring competitiveness in terms of pricing, value addition and compliance of mandatory standards of host countries.

Mr. Muhammad Mudassir, Section Officer (Africa), Ministry of Commerce in his concluding remarks, stated that in order to focus more on the world’s 2nd largest continent i.e., Africa region, Ministry of Commerce launched “Look Africa Policy” in 2017 and in the current year, the number of our trade missions in Africa region have been increased from four to ten trade stations. Under Look Africa Initiative, MOC is working on developing Government to Government linkages, Bilateral Trade Agreements and enhancing connections between relevant departments.

He expressed that Pakistan Sports Goods sector has significant competitive advantage and assured Ministry’s full cooperation with the Trade Officers posted in Africa region for providing assistance to all relevant stakeholders in devising export strategies, keeping in view of the demand side issues and regional dynamics. He extended thanks to all the participants and particularly TDAP for organizing such an informative and fruitful webinar. The participants actively participated in the Q and A session and their queries were answered by the speakers.
