Wholesale rates of vegetables fall, but retail rates still high

Karachi:The wholesale rates of vegetables in megacity Karachi have crashed, but the retail grocery shops are still fleecing the consumers.

Karachi vegetable market sources that the wholesale rate of spinach is just Rs6 per kilogram, but the retailers are selling it at Rs30 to Rs40 per kilogram. They said the wholesale rate of tomatoes is just Rs10 per kilogram but retailers are selling it as Rs30 per kilogram.

Potatoes and onions are available in wholesale market at Rs20 per kg but their retail rate is still Rs40 to Rs60. Market sources that vegetables are in ample supply in wholesale market at very cheap rates but retailers are fleecing Karachi consumers due to bad governance and poor price control.
