Youth Engagement Intensifies Against Pervasive Corruption

An urgent call was made for young people to internalise a deep aversion to corruption and to challenge societal norms that have unfortunately normalised practices like nepotism, bribery, and favouritism, during a recent seminar held in Quetta.

According to a report today, the anti-graft body emphasised that these pervasive unethical practices undermine societal integrity and require concerted action from all segments of the community.

The National Accountability Bureau”s Balochistan chapter (NAB-B) organised the event at General Muhammad Musa, Govt Boys Postgraduate College, as part of its ongoing anti-corruption awareness campaign. The primary objective was to inform the youth about the detrimental impacts of malfeasance and to foster collective efforts for establishing a corruption-free society.

Speakers, including Mr. Ehtisham-ul-Haq, Additional Director NAB (B), and Mr. Hussain Baloch, Director Colleges, engaged with students and faculty. They discussed NAB”s vision, mission, and the significant role that students can play in combating the menace of graft.

Deputy Director NAB (B), Mr. Khuram Shehzad, delivered a formal address, urging students to adopt moral standards where a strong disapproval of corruption becomes an integral part of their character. He further highlighted that Islamic teachings also stress self-accountability and unequivocally prohibit any form of dishonesty.

Mr. Shehzad pinpointed influence peddling, bribery, extortion, and favouritism as common forms of corruption that have, regrettably, become accepted as societal norms. He underscored that the joint endeavours of students, as vital members of society, are crucial for laying the groundwork for a transparent and honest community.

Following the formal presentations, Mr. Ehtisham-ul-Haq, Additional Director, NAB (B), patiently and effectively addressed numerous questions raised by students and faculty members, fostering an interactive exchange.

On the occasion, Director Colleges, Mr. Hussain Baloch, and the college Principal also shared their perspectives against corruption. Both lauded the initiatives of NAB Balochistan and pledged their full assistance in the bureau”s anti-corruption awareness drive.

The seminar concluded with the presentation of a shield to the college Principal by the Additional Director NAB, followed by mutual expressions of gratitude and a vote of thanks from both sides.

Subsequently, an awareness walk was arranged, drawing participation from seminar attendees, including NAB officers, the Director Colleges, the Principal, Professors, and a considerable gathering of students, further cementing the message against corruption.
