180 Pakistani students honored with international awards

KARACHI:The British Council and Pearson hosted academic award ceremony here on Thursday for the Pakistani students who achieved outstanding results including Top in World, Top in Asia and Top in Country categories in their primary, International GCSE and A Level examination in 2018.

This year, over 180 students received Edexcel awards in four different categories including Top in World, Top in Asia, Top in Country, High Achievement Max A*and A, and Top Performing Students. Pearson-Edexcel also recognises the efforts of the teachers who are behind the success of these young learners.

The Pearson high achievers award ceremony was honoured by Derek Richardson, Vice President, General Qualifications Pearson UK, Ms Premila Paulraj, Regional Director, Asia-Pearson, Faisal Mahmood, Business Head Pakistan, Pearson, Michael Houlgate, Area Director Sindh and Balochistan, British Council Pakistan, Imtiaz Razi, Director Examinations, British Council, high achievers including teachers, parents and distinguished guests.

Pearson focused on academic excellence, surging desire for knowledge, attitudinal change including tolerance and compassion, developing a sense of purpose and high achievement with the vision for tomorrow, said Michael while presenting awards to the high achiever students in the ceremony organised by Pearson-Edexcel and British Council in Karachi.

Derek appreciated the efforts of teachers and students for academic excellence. He said that the UK government would ensure to create opportunities for Pakistani students to introduce foreign qualifications. The qualifications offered by Pearson-Edexcel further strengthening the academic standards in the country.

Michael presented awards and certificates to the high achievers and said Pearson-Edexcel’s collaboration with the British Council is an encouraging initiative for introducing foreign qualifications in the country. The new academic concepts and best practices are making massive investment in the education sector.

Ms. Premila said: “Pakistan is a key focus market for Pearson. We are pleased to have invested in infrastructure, free teacher training programmes and low priced text books to support teachers, students and parents.

The British Council and United Kingdom’s largest awarding organisation Pearson are making all out efforts to improve education in Pakistan and provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the country.

In a welcome note, Faisal Mahmood, Business Head Pakistan, Pearson said, the High Achievers Awards Ceremony is a special occasion, which provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of talented students in Pakistan. The students recognised today had achieved results that compared well with students all over the world; students in Pakistan had been achieving outstanding results consistently over the years.
