2500 new cancer patients reported at AEMC every year

KARACHI:Director, Atomic Energy Medical Centre (AEMC), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Muhammad Ali Memon on Saturday said 2,500 to 3,000 different types of new cancer cases are being reported annually for treatment at AEMC.

Dr Muhammad Ali Memon while talking to PPI, said cancer cases are increasing day by day and annually 2,500 to 3,000 new cancer cases being reported at AEMC for treatment. He further said a total 40,000 to 50,000 nuclear medicine patients cater every year at centre.

He said World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. He explained that there are multiple reasons of cancer spreading in Pakistan including food adulteration, environment, abnormality of cells and family history.

Dr Memon said early detection and complete treatment can minimize the cancer related complications. He said proper diet, daily exercise and healthy activities can reduce risk of developing cancer diseases.
