A 45-member delegation, including journalists, visits SU

HYDERABAD:A high-profile Karachi-based delegation comprising journalists, writers, intellectuals, lawyers, businessmen, medical practitioners, social mobilizers and civil society activists visited University of Sindh. The 45-member team was led by noted print and electronic media veteran Aijaz Khokhar.

VC SU Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, director quality enhancement cell of the varsity Dr. Shazad Ahmed Memon, SU media office incharge Dr. Ghulam Ali Buriro and incharge ISO certification cell Dr. Ameer Ali Abro received the delegation at Institute of Sindhology premises.

In a brief yet magnanimous varsity-introduction ceremony held at Senate Hall of the vice-chancellor’s secretariat, vice chancellor Dr. Burfat informed the touring team about reform initiatives, recent accomplishments, historical background, socio-cultural fabric and academic, administrative, research and professional profile of the varsity.

Dr. Burfat made a special mention of outstanding caliber and qualification of SU teachers, dormitory facilities being provided to boy and girl students by the varsity, the varsity’s country-wide exceptional ranking in terms of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, lowest annual tuition fees, SU alumni celebrities and the most tolerant socio-cultural, religious-political and interfaith-harmonious environment.

Eminent media person and SU alumnus Aijaz Khokhar said he was visiting SU after quite a bit of time and he was wonder-struck to witness infrastructural transformation Dr. Burfat had been able to effect in the short span of merely two years.

Khokhar added he was stunned to behold firsthand, rich vegetation and prolific greenery at the campus which was barely visible a few years back.

Khokhar eulogized Dr. Burfat’s revolutionary progress projects that included online students’ attendance mechanism, ISO certification, online marks certificate viewing facility, SU inclusion in QS Asia top 450 universities and employees’ biometric attendance operation.

SU QEC Director Dr Shahzad Ahmed Memon and SU ISO Certification Cell Incharge Dr Ameer Ali Abro, in their joint presentation, intimated the audience about establishment of quality enhancement cells at SU additional campuses and affiliated colleges, submission of around 150 research projects to Higher Education Commission Islamabad, successful and effective operation of Ms/M.Phil. and PhD programs, approval and work execution of multiple development projects, launch of online complaint system, federal and provincial government approval of extensive financial packages and grants and palpable increase in student enrolment that had gone up to a record high of 35000 on-campus students.

Earlier, the delegation visited cultural museum gallery at the Institute of Sindhology and expressed their immense delight over having travelled across Sindh in an hour’s time through anthropological display of exhibits at the museum.

Vice chancellor Dr. Burfat decorated all guests with traditional souvenir of Ajrak. SU media office Incharge Dr Ghulam Ali Buriro moderated the proceedings of the program.
