Africans earn 4-0 win over Asian Football team at ICCBS-UoK

KARACHI: A friendly Intercontinental Football match was played between Asian and African students at the footfall ground of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK) on Saturday.

The African team earned a comfortable 4-0 win over the Asian side.

The match commenced at 11:50 am and ended at 01:10pm. Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cameroon Syed Abdul Bari Jeelani was the chief guest on the occasion, while the guests witnessing the game were Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Federal Minister of Science & Technology, and former Chairman HEC, Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Honorary Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Cameroon Syed Nadeem Bari Jeelani and senior faculty members of ICCBS including Prof. Dr. Khalid M Khan.

The hotly contested first half of the match ended in a goalless half with both the sides putting up a very good display. The second half was also heading for a goalless draw until the 20th minute when the African eleven scored their first goal. Encouraged by their success, the African eleven put in tremendous efforts to score three more goals till the end of the game.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary appreciated the efforts of both the teams, especially the African eleven for their remarkable victory, and said that the event was a good attempt to provide national and international students a relief from their hectic academic schedule. He also thanked the chief guest for sparing some of his valuable time to encourage the students.

In the end, the Consul General of the Republic of Cameroon gave away the trophy to the wining team. The runner up trophy was presented to the Asian side, and cups to all the contestants.
