Another rabies patient brought to JPMC

KARACHI:An 18-year-old youngster, Zahoor Khan, son of Manzoor Khan with full-blown rabies, was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) from Nooriabad.

Executive Director, JPMC, Dr Seemin Jamali, confirmed on Saturday that a rabies patient was brought to then emergency department of JPMC from Nooriabad and shifted to Isolation Word. He bitten by a dog on his leg three months ago but he was not vaccinated against rabies.

She said that a total 10 rabies related deaths were recorded in Karachi at JPMC alone this year so far. She informed that there is no cure if a person gets a full-blown viral infection, adding this viral illness is transmitted to humans if they are bitten by a rabid animal, mostly dogs.

Earlier, a 45-year-old man Muhammad Saleem, father of six children, died due to lethal rabies viral illness at the JPMC five days ago.

In Sindh, a total 21 people have n died due to deadly rabies viral illness so far, out of them 10 deaths were recorded at the JPMC.

More than 155,000 dog-bite cases have been recorded in Sindh from January to date and more than 23,000 of these cases were reported in Karachi megacity this year so far.
