BA adopts constitutional resolution

QUETTA:It is an established fact that Balochistan is biggest province of Pakistan in area. At the recently held census provincial population has increased 120 million people which is almost double of the previous census. But three seats have been increased for National assembly in Balochistan while province assembly seat has been increased.

This was stated by Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti while moving constitutional resolution under rule 115 of Provincial assembly Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business 1974.

Resolution was joined moved by Shaikh Jaffar Mandokhel, Tahir Mahmood Khan, Syed Mohammad Raza, Leader of Opposition Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Rehmat Saleh Baloch and Dr Shama Ishaq Baloch.

Resolution empowered Parliament under Article 144 to make necessary legislation to increase national assembly seats from Balochistan to 24 and women special seats to five. Similarly provincial assembly general seats should be raised to 20, women special seats to 4 and one seat for minority.

Leader of Opposition Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Maulana Abdul Wasay (JUI). spoke on the resolution.

Home Minister said it was expected from previous government that reservations would be addressed for demarcation but it was not so. We are now seeing the matter seriously. He said resolution should be adopted so that measures re taken for it at the earliest.

Adviser Abdul Karim Nosherwani, Abdul Rehman Khetran, Mohtarma Yasmin Lehri, Dr Hamid Achakzai, Khalid Langav, Nasrullah Zeray, William Barkat, Dr Ruqiyyah Hashmi, Jaffar Mandokhel also participated in discussion.

Speaker Ms Rahila Durrani ruled that demarcation is of great significance. Three national assembly seats have been raised while no provincial assembly seat has been increased and it is matter of great concern. Resolution is only mean through which members of assembly can take their reservations to concerned quarters. A parliamentary committee has also been constituted to hold talks with concerned quarters in this regard.

When put to vote House unanimously adopted the resolution.
