ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has released an amount of Rs 40 million for the repatriation of Pakistani Prisoners who were stranded in Malaysia due to the closure of Airspace after the completion of their jail terms in petty crimes.
The cheque was presented by Chairman Bait-ul-Mal Aun Abbas to Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari here.
It may be mentioned here that the prime minister had directed the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and Foreign Office to release Rs 40 million and Rs 10 million, respectively for bringing the stranded Pakistanis back.
On the occasion, Ghulam Sarwar said over 300 Pakistanis were sent to the Malaysian detainee camps on their release due to the tension that occurred between Pakistan and India after the Pulwama incident which led to the closing of the airspace.
He said Malaysia was home to a large number of Boneir’s residents and the Malaysians also liked Pakistanis due to their hard work.
Sarwar said since Manpower Export agreement was signed between Pakistan and Malaysia in 2006, the latter had exported huge manpower from the former .He said the government was in contact with Malaysian authorities to launch the direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Islamabad.
Zulfikar Bukhari said Prime Minister Imran Khan was the driving force behind the initiative to bring the Pakistani prisoners back to their homeland prior to Eid ul Fitr.
He said this type of move from the government would send a signal across the globe that the country is very serious in taking care of its citizens.
He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistani mission in Malaysia who did remarkable job and ensure speedy repatriation of the Pakistani prisoners.
