ChildLife Foundation saves 2.7 million children in 8 years

KARACHI:Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho has said Government of Sindh is fully committed to transform emergency care services in partnership with private sector. She said better emergency care through public private partnership saved many precious lives.

Speaking at a briefing on up gradation of emergency rooms in Sindh hospitals she said by managing state of the art emergency rooms for children the ChildLife Foundation has showed the way to replicate the model in all emergencies.

She said everyday many children are brought in emergency rooms in precarious conditions and they have to be handled with utmost care by health professionals. To ensure patients safety these professionals need emergency equipment in perfect condition and assured availability of trained staff and life-saving medicines in emergency rooms.

Dr Azra said that we are committed to ensure better utilization of scarce resources through the public private partnership. We believe that health care, especially quality emergency care, is the basic right of every citizen, including children. We are working with the private sector and communities in all Districts and Taluka levels of Sindh to play our role in ensuring that no child will be deprived from health care services, she added.

Dr Ahson Rabbani, CEO, ChildLife Foundation in his presentation to Health Minister said, “Sindh Government’s commitment has paved the way for development of better health infrastructure for people of Sindh.

Since the project began in Karachi, the children of Karachi have access to world class emergency services within 30 minutes from their location.

He said that this partnership has enabled ChildLife Foundation to treat around 2.7 million children and through our services survival rate in resuscitation rooms has quadrupled in the last 8 years.

With the network of 7 Emergency Rooms, ChildLife is saving 1 million children annually now. Moreover, ChildLife is using Tele-Medicine to reach remote areas such as Mithi and provide consultation 24X7,” he added Currently, ChildLife has 7 state-of-the-art model emergency rooms in Sindh including – Mother and Child Hospital, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawahshah), Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, and 5 hospitals in Karachi including Civil Hospital, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5, Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and additional such facilities will be working in Sukkur and Hyderabad soon.

We are also moving ahead with Telemedicine Satellite Centers at 100+ govt secondary hospitals within next 3 years,” he said, adding that besides Sindh, the foundation is also working to set up a Children’s Emergency Room in Quetta.
